The Medieval Castelo de Beja.  A small castle with free entry within its walls, there is a charge to go up the tower. Beja is the capital of Baixo Alentejo which the lower part of the Alentejo region, not far from the Spanish border. With the majestic Castillo de Baños de la Encina (also known as the Castillo de Burgalimar)  behind it´s easy to see why it was built here. The vast plains stretch into the horizon. Today we see marching rows of olive trees rather than the enemy approaching.
